We believe that ultimately words are inadequate to capture the reality of God and his kingdom. However there are elements of the mystery and reality of God and his kingdom that can come close to being captured in words and that is what we will attempt to do here.
We believe the Bible is a collection of God inspired stories, poems, history, letters, and prophecy that continue to echo from history to show us the way of God today. Collectively they are the story of God's love, redemption, and relationship with humanity. These scriptures are the source of authority and life for anyone who is following the way of Jesus. As we engross ourselves in the Bible it shows us who we are, how we are to live, and if we allow it, transforms us to be more like Jesus.
In the beginning the eternal God created all things. He created humans in his own image. He created humans to be in perfect communion with himself, each other, and creation. Then humans chose to not live God's way and chose to follow their own ways. This is when sin entered into humanity and forever distorted the way we related to God, each other, and creation.
God however did not give up on humanity. There were a few humans that still chose to follow God's way. God chose one of them, Abraham, to be the first of a people that would be God's people. God promised Abraham that he would be the beginning of a great nation, who would be a blessed people and that the whole world would be blessed through him and his descendants.
God set aside the people of Israel, Abraham's descendants, to be that blessing to the world. When they followed the ways of God, God protected them and prospered them. When they followed other gods and their own way God would give them over to enslavement and oppression. The nation was always looking forward to a great King, called the Messiah, which would ultimately save them from oppression and enslavement.
We believe that Jesus was the Messiah the King they were looking for. Jesus was sent by God the Father and entered our world as a baby from a virgin mother. He was mysteriously both completely God and man. Jesus perfectly lived out the way of God, and began to reveal the kingdom of God to humanity. Although full of love, hope, and truth Jesus was betrayed, rejected, killed by crucifixion, buried, rose from the dead, appeared to many, and then returned to heaven to await his imminent physical return.
Only through Jesus' death and resurrection can humans be rescued from a state of separation from God. Through only Jesus we can be eternally forgiven, be made whole, and be restored to right relationship with God. For all who choose to accept his sacrifice God gives the Holy Spirit who guides us and shows us how to live in the way of Jesus.
After the physical departure of Jesus from this world God established the church to be a representation of him in the world. The church exists to live out his mission of redemption in this world, be the representation of Jesus to the rest of the world, further the kingdom of God, and to communally worship, honor, and glorify God.
We believe that one day Jesus will return in bodily form to establish his eternal kingdom, all will be resurrected, judged, and separated to eternal life with God or eternal death. Then God will establish his eternal kingdom in a new heaven and a new earth.
